Too many unanswered questions. Will anybody be held accountable? Don’t hold your breath.

Our primary concern is the safety of our fellow citizens. This is supposed to be the number one job of the government.

As the documents separately posted in the album below clearly show, it is obvious many government officials failed to keep us safe. There was not only the one lady shot in Carmelita Park, but also the window shot out of a man’s truck in the parking lot of Public Works.

Could there be a clearer example of extreme negligence and incompetence on the part of Charlotte County government than this? It is a miracle nobody was killed.

Can anyone believe County Attorney Janette Knowlton when she assured everyone at Carmelita Park is safe? We also wonder how the Public Works employees, and visitors, going in and out of that facility feel, now that they know they could be hit by a bullet.

County Attorney Knowlton misleads the public

Notice how County Attorney Janette Knowlton deceives the public when she says this happened before she arrived in her position. This is a twin deception because the second stray bullet happened in 2007, years after she became County Attorney. This is the latest in a long string of deceptions by Ms. Knowlton, but probably the worst.

Many people have suggested that this is part of a grand scheme designed by the developer or county officials to get taxpayers to fork over $10 million taxpayer dollars for a new gun range.

–We do not support taxpayer dollars being spent to move the gun range.–

The developers knew the gun range was there when they bought the property. We question the wisdom of putting a housing development next to a gun range, but that was their choice and really is none of our business.

We do suppose they, like us, assumed that there are all kinds of very strict rules and regulations controlling the safety of a gun range. Perhaps they, like us, foolishly assumed that because the county government is operating the gun range, that all of those rules and regulations were being followed and the surrounding area was safe and secure.

If the gun range was privately owned, we can imagine the posturing of our politicians and bureaucrats, each one wanting to be seen as more outraged than the other. They would be merciless upon hearing the news that a lady was shot with a stray bullet, and rightfully so. The gun range would have been shut down and the owner put in jail with the news of the second stray bullet hitting the truck. But because the gun range is county owned, the rules are different. No one will be held accountable. No one will be fired.

It’s good to be King.

Here are some unanswered questions we hope you will all ask the commissioners, County Administrator Raymond Sandrock and County Attorney Janette Knowlton.

They will say, “the matter is in litigation and I cannot comment”.

The sad fact is, even when matters are not in litigation, they still refuse to answer to taxpayers, which is the one of the main reasons our County (taxpayers) constantly gets sued, and loses.

Is the gun range safe and secure to use?

What, if anything, has Mr. Sandrock done to ensure the gun range is safe to use since this report was given to the county last year?

If the County secured the gun range after the 2002 shooting, as County Attorney Knowlton stated in the video, then why did another stray bullet hit the truck in 2007?

Why are there nearly 300 bullet rounds and fragments, outside the gun range, where EP3 tested just a small 25′ x 25′ area on each lot, according to the attached gun range map?

Will Mr. Sandrock provide documentation to prove that the county took all necessary measures to protect the citizens using Carmelita Park and county workers at the Public Works buildings that have been hit by stray bullets?

Have any other citizens been hit by a stray bullets from the gun range?

With nearly 300 spent rounds and bullet fragments found in the study, were any ballistics tests run in order to match the spent rounds with law-enforcement weapons used at the range? If not, why not?

If the ballistics did not match law-enforcement weapons, will the county attempt to prove a possible fraud on the part of the developer?

Our sources tell us that the berm behind the target area must be regularly sifted and cleared of spent rounds and then rebuilt back up to code. Mr. Sandrock should provide the documents proving this was done not only from the beginning of the gun range, but especially since the 2002 shooting.

How much does the dirt cost to secure the gun range?

Was the person(s) responsible for the safety of the gun range disciplined or fired after the 2002 shooting incident? Please provide the documents.

Was the person(s) responsible for the safety of the gun range disciplined or fired after the 2007 shooting incident? Please provide the documents.
