A Tale of Waste and Incompetence
Our thanks to a concerned observer.
Why is the refrigerator outside?
A Tale of Waste and Incompetence
1. Lynette Auger, employee fondly known as the Turtle Lady, found a dead turtle while on the job. One of her job responsibilities is to preserve dead turtles and turn them over to someone who investigates the cause of death. Preserving the turtle means it needs to be frozen.
2. She put the dead turtle in the refrigerator used by the Park employees for storing lunch foods and beverages. The refrigerator was located in a building in the Parks & Recreation storage yard adjacent to Chadwick Park, near Englewood Beach. This refrigerator was inside the building when the turtle carcas was first put in it.
3. The photo shows the refrigerator is now outside. This is because the stench of the dead turtle carcass was too sickening to keep the refrigerator inside the building. Note the extension cord running across the parking lot to keep the refrigerator running to preserve the dead turtle cold inside the stinky refrigerator.
4. Another photo shows Lynette Auger and a coworker with a cooler they are loading into their truck. What do you think was in the cooler?
5. Is the County going to buy another refrigerator for employee lunches?
6. Why wouldn’t Turtle Lady store the dead turtle in a cooler rather than the refrigerator that was dedicated for human food?
