COUNTY COMMISSIONERS BACK DOWN! BEACH GUY CAN STAY!
AFTER A PUBLIC OUTCRY RESULTING IN A PUBLIC RELATIONS DISASTER, REPORTED HERE FIRST, AND THEN ALL OVER SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, CHARLOTTE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ISSUED A PRESS RELEASE LATE YESTERDAY SAYING THEY WILL ALLOW BEACH GUY TO STAY. (HOWEVER, WE STILL URGE EVERYONE TO JOIN TOMORROW’S RALLY, JUST IN CASE THE COUNTY TRIES TO PULL A FAST ONE ON THE BEACH GUY.)
Anti-business bureaucrats like Director of “Community Services” Tommy Scott and Zoning Official Sean Cullinan, along with County Commission Chairman Bill Truex, all claimed ATVs could not be used on the beach because of “federal and state statutes”. The county’s position was immediately shown to be false when it was revealed here on SBG that other counties allow ATVs on their beaches.
We here at SBG are glad the county has changed it’s mind, but this attack on a small businessman should never have happened in the first place.
SBG really wishes to bring to light the anti-business mindset of the Charlotte County Commissioners and bureaucrats. If anyone doubts us, take a few minutes to count the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of empty storefronts on US41 that have been there for nearly a decade.
Meanwhile, North Port is booming with new construction.
