Two pastors were electrocuted while trimming palm trees last year to save money to pay the church tax. Churches in Charlotte County are scrambling to come up with the non-ad valorem tax imposed by the Charlotte County commissioners; some to the tune of $18,000 and more.
Because the state of Florida allows this tax, it has been implemented on the churches and the poorest of its citizenship. Paying this out-of control tax almost makes the homestead exemption null and void.
The county commissioners should be held responsible for taxing the very churches they attend. A dark cloud of unrighteous greed hangs over our county, and it is time for good people to stand against this tax.
